ISLAMABAD – In a promising development for public sector workers, the federal government’s special committee has given strong assurances regarding the implementation of key employee demands—most notably, salary increases and pension reforms—in the upcoming Budget 2025-26.
According to official sources, a high-level meeting of the special committee was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Chief Whip of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Law and Justice, and the Establishment Division, as well as leaders from the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA), including Chief Coordinator Rahman Bajwa.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed the progress on a written agreement previously signed between the government and its employees, which outlines various demands such as salary enhancements, pension restructuring, and leave encashment.
Speaking to media after the meeting, Rahman Bajwa confirmed that Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry had assured full implementation of the government’s commitments to employees. He also stated that all legitimate demands, including the Prime Minister’s promised relief package and leave encashment, would be addressed in the forthcoming budget.
Bajwa added that officials from the Ministry of Finance reaffirmed the government’s commitment to honoring the written agreement. He warned, however, that government employees across the country would converge in Islamabad on budget day to ensure compliance.
“If the agreement is implemented, leaders like Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Rana Sanaullah will be celebrated and remembered in golden words,” Bajwa remarked. “But if the promises are not fulfilled, they too will join the employees’ sit-in protest.”
Additionally, it was revealed that Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah will chair a follow-up meeting next week to make a decision specifically on leave encashment matters.
In conclusion, both the government and the employees’ union agreed to prepare their respective working papers for the next round of committee meetings to finalize the implementation strategy.
This development brings a wave of optimism for millions of government employees awaiting concrete financial relief in the upcoming federal budget.
