ISLAMABAD – June 20, 2025:
In a landmark initiative to mark a major national milestone, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in partnership with local mobile phone manufacturers, has announced the distribution of 2,000 free locally assembled smartphones exclusively for female SIM owners across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
This development coincides with the PTA’s celebration of surpassing 200 million telecom subscribers nationwide — a significant achievement in the country's digital transformation journey.
“The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority proudly announces a historic milestone of crossing 200 million telecom subscribers nationwide,” the official PTA statement read. “With over 150 million broadband users and more than 2 million Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) connections, this accomplishment showcases the rapid pace of Pakistan’s digital evolution and PTA’s unwavering commitment to inclusive and accessible connectivity.”
As part of the celebratory efforts, local smartphone manufacturers have contributed to the digital inclusion campaign by offering 2,000 free smartphones, which will be distributed through a computerized ballot to eligible female SIM card holders. The initiative targets enhancing women's digital access and empowerment throughout Pakistan, AJK, and GB.
Free Wi-Fi Hotspots at Universities
In a parallel move to improve internet access in educational institutions, the PTA has also partnered with PTCL and private telecom companies to launch free Wi-Fi services at selected HEC-recognized universities, including women's universities, for a period of six months. This step aims to bridge the digital divide in higher education and promote digital literacy among students.
Nationwide Data & Minutes Giveaway
To further commemorate the milestone, PTA, in collaboration with all major cellular mobile operators (Jazz, Telenor, Ufone, Zong, and SCO), is offering 2GB of free mobile data and 200 free on-net minutes to all mobile users across the country. The offer is valid for 24 hours on June 20, 2025.
“As part of this national celebration, all mobile subscribers can avail the offer by dialing *2200# on their respective networks,” the PTA confirmed.
The PTA reiterated its mission to continue driving Pakistan’s digital future by ensuring equitable access to connectivity and innovative services for all citizens.
