Sindh Set New Conditions for College Admission

Sindh Makes Father's Domicile Mandatory for College Admissions 2025 — Merit Lists to Be Displayed on July 22

KARACHI: The Sindh Education Department has introduced a new requirement for college admissions in 2025 that has sparked confusion and concern among students and parents alike. From this year onward, applicants must submit their father’s domicile for admission, while the student’s own domicile and Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) are no longer required.

This change has led to frustration for many families, as obtaining the father’s domicile has proven to be a challenge. Citizens have reported making repeated visits to government offices, often facing bureaucratic hurdles and delays.

Speaking to the media, a department official stated that the aim is to simplify the admission process. As part of the changes, results of 5th and 8th grades will no longer be required, and students who have failed in up to two subjects in 9th grade will still be eligible to apply.

However, despite the claimed ease, the new requirement has been met with criticism. Many argue that instead of easing the burden, it has added another layer of difficulty, especially for families where the father’s documentation is missing or outdated.

The admission process will remain open until July 15, and merit lists will be posted starting July 22. Students must confirm their admission within the deadline, or they risk losing their seat, which will then be offered to another candidate.

Parents and students are urging the government to reconsider the policy and provide alternative options for those unable to present a father’s domicile.
