NADRA Introduces New CNIC and B-Form Rules: What You Need to Know

ISLAMABAD
– Big changes are coming to how Pakistanis get their CNICs and B-Forms. On the orders of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced new rules starting in 2025 to improve identity verification across the country.

Key Changes in B-Form Registration

One of the most important updates is that birth registration at the Union Council level is now mandatory before applying for a B-Form. This move is aimed at stopping fake entries and ensuring better protection for children.

New Biometric Rules by Age

To tighten the system further, NADRA has introduced age-based biometric requirements:

  • Under 3 years: No photo or biometric data needed.
  • Ages 3 to 10: Photo and iris scan now required.
  • Ages 10 to 18: Photo, fingerprint scan, and iris scan are all mandatory.

Each child will now receive an individual B-Form with an expiry date. Old B-Forms will still be valid for most uses, but a new B-Form is now required for passport applications.

Family Registration Certificate Gets Legal Power

The Family Registration Certificate (FRC) is no longer just a supporting document—it now has legal status. People applying must declare that all family details are correct.

The updated FRC will also include full details of family structures, including multiple marriages, and women can now choose whether to show their father’s or husband’s name on their CNIC.

Faster CNIC Resolutions and New Chipless ID Cards

NADRA has promised to resolve cases of confiscated or blocked CNICs within 30 days. In addition, a new chipless identity card has been introduced. It’s more affordable and faster to deliver but still includes smart features like:

  • Data in Urdu and English
  • A QR code for easy verification

More NADRA Biker Services in Karachi

In a separate move to improve public access, NADRA’s mobile biker service in Karachi has been expanded. According to DG NADRA Aamir Ali Khan, the number of biker units has increased from 3 to 8, helping citizens get services at their doorstep faster.
